South Leicestershire Badminton Club was formed in 1992 when the Countesthorpe Badminton Club and Wigston Badminton merged… that makes us 31 years old!
The club received on 18th December 2015 accreditation as a Badminton England Premier Club and Sport England Clubmark. The club will seek renewal on an annual basis.
The club first started a Junior Section some 11 years later in 2003, which makes the Junior Club 20 years old. Over the last 7 years with a new structure, the Junior Club has been more integrated within the main club rather a separate entity. For the last four seasons an internal club tournament was held with boys & girls singles & now doubles events. Over the years, many junior members have gone onto represent Leicestershire and older members have followed the pathway into the Senior Club, and now enjoy playing badminton in the Leicestershire Leagues.
For Junior players who wish to progress into the Senior Club, there are plenty of opportunities as the club has two ladies teams, three mens teams and four mixed teams.
The long-term goal for South Leicestershire Badminton Club is to ensure the success of a Junior club to provide longevity to the Club. The club offers high quality junior coaching, delivered by fully qualified, licensed / registered and DBS checked coaches, in a safe and fun environment.
